The Layers of a Roof System

Understanding the makeup of a roof system can help a building owner to understand the nature of the repairs or replacement needed.  The deck is the base of the system and the membrane acts as the first layer of defense. This image is an example of the layers for a flat commercial roof system. The system is largely dependent on the needs of the individual building.

Some buildings need a vapor barrier, some don’t need a cover board. If the building will be used as an office, it is possible that more insulation is needed, versus a storage building. There will always be variables.

All Weather Systems can help you navigate the many decisions along with making recommendations of the type of materials to use.
